Stelvio Pass

it's where MR and I will definitely be heading next year Thumb up Thumb up

we belong to a couple of Lotus forums and there was a topic in SELOC about their annual pilgrimage to Stelvio. It seems that they make a trip over every year meeting up with European Elise owners. They do this trip in memory of a fallen friend; a friend they actually had a procession for when he was coming home from the hospital because they couldn't do any more for him and he was coming home to die. It sounds morbid I know but that guy who passed away loved this pass and in his memory a bunch of people meet up, have a blast around the pass and just celebrate life in Maarten's honour. You'll get a feel for it better if you read the link I posted.

this is one of the videos they did for this year: clicky it's well worth watching Thumb up Thumb up

we figure life is too short and the fact that neither one of us are getting any younger, we've got the car, we've got the means why the heck not?! It's really weird because someone else on the VX220 forum has died from cancer, he bought his VX when he found out he had cancer. He did what he wanted to do and he enjoyed himself up until...well, you get the picture. I get choked up just thinking about it.

Anyway, I'm really excited about going because we're finally doing something we talked about doing when we first got the Liz and that's driving her all through Europe. In a couple of weeks we're heading off for France and Belgium, next year Stelvio Thumb up Thumb up

I am so excited I had to post Grin

did you check out the pics and that video on youtube? I get excited just thinking about. MR and I have been talking more about it and we're thinking of possibly taking a whole month off to drive through Europe. We're already going to go through Italy, Switzerland, France and Austria so the Liz is going to have quite a few European conquests.

Heck, I'm excited about next week when we head for France, Belgium and Germany Thumb up

Have fun next week.  And I am sure you would enjoy Stelvio.

We use to drive up Mount Washington, New Hampshire.  Every year they have a race and I was going to drive my ex's Toyota all track in the race.  Half of it is not paved and cars with all wheel drive always do better.  Ah well in a previous life.

Here is a link to the road.  http://www.mountwashington.com/autoroad/index.html

Looks like fun.

goodness, those roads defintely require 4x4's. Poor Lizzy wouldn't stand a chance, nor would my arse ROFL I do enjoy rallys/off roading. I need more money to follow my car pursuits.

OMG Shocked Shocked Shocked just watched the new episode of Top Gear and they took the roads we will be travelling from and it's both scary and exciting at the same time. We're going to go through Davos and Bormio to get to Stelvio Pass. If anyone gets a chance to see this episode, watch it! I am really getting excited about our big holiday Thumb up Thumb up

well, if you no longer hear from me after Sept of next year then you'll know I've plummeted to my death ROFL ROFL I'm just really excited about it now, even more so now that I've seen some of the places we'll be driving through. It always looks different when you see something on telly as opposed to something like YouTube...don't know why

You will not fall to your death!  You will enjoy every moment even if it scares you!  Nothing like the rush.
