Anyone been there recently?  Steve and I are thinking of a few days down that way in early August and thought we would see what others found interesting that might not be in the usual brochures.

What's recently?  It's been three years since I've been there, but I'm sure not a lot has changed.  Me personally, I'd avoid Land's End, unless you want the touristy experience!

Check out the Minacke Theatre near Penzance - if you haven't been there, it's worth it to watch a play or musical outdoors with the sun setting behind the actors (although it was kinda drizzly the time I went!).

What kinds of things are you guys interesting in seeing/doing?  If you're into gardens, I'd check out the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Sorry I'm not providing any links, too much of a hurry (as usual), but they're easily googled.

We will be there for a week in Mid July so may have more to report then. Looking forward to fish/chips and Cornish Pasties though. Don't know what Ru is going to eat...he's allergic to fish Grin

As you say, things probably don't change that much.  I want to avoid the touristy stuff pretty much.  Want to see the country side and eat some lovely food and relax!

Will look forward to your report, Cheryls!

When we go down we just drive around and do what catches our fancy.  On our last trip I went into a charity shop and bought some nice prints for a pound.  My over all goal is to get an " oh ahar my louvar" from a local with mutton chops for sideburns.  If I can capture it on my phone I will have felt as if I died and went to heaven.

Have fun.

I've never been but would like to visit.  Dh says he won't go because it's too touristy.  I'll just have to find someone to go with sometime.

Even though I haven't been too helpful in responding to Windsong's message, I think there are lots of places around Cornwall that AREN'T touristy!  You just have to look around.  Cape Cornwall pops to mind (although I think it would be difficult for Windsong, too much rough ground).

We were there in July and there was literally no one else around!  Maybe because there's no tea room or gift shop and the ground is rather rough!  But it was fantastic, feeling like we were on the edge of the earth!  There were plenty of people around at Kynance Cove when we stopped there as well, but it didn't seem overly-crowded...just beautiful!

you're more than welcome to come with us Annie Grin

Minack Theater is a good place to visit espcially if you have tickets to the any plays, symphony, etc.  Absolutely beautiful background. We stayed in a little B & B called the Travellers Lodge...I think....this was a while back.

What we did was drive down to see Stonehenge, made our way to Newquay....great surfing BTW...found a B&B there and had the loveliest dinner at a pub that's on the edge of a cliff. The local will point this out to you, fab food great views. Then made our way to St Ives which I thought was a lovely little fishing village. Plenty of people around there, nice if you like to people watch. Drove along the coast visited St Michael's Mount...well worth visiting, very tempeted to go kitesurfing but the water was too cold. Headed down to Lands End and made our way back up again.
