I have not looked at an American president and felt hope since the days of Jimmy Carter (a great man, but he came before his time, and there were too many opponents ranged against his plans for justice and reform), but Barack Obama has not just promised to do right, he is taking action already.  He has already started on Guantánamo Bay - and what could be a better first act for a new president than to shut down this cesspit of torture and other human rights abuses!

Congratulations to all Americans, who will be able to hold their heads up proudly again, and honour a president of whom they need not be ashamed!

I am thrilled!  We got to watch the inauguration on BBC World and Skynews as we have satellite tv (oh, the hard life of a volunteer...).  One bonus for me personally is that I no longer have to be embarrassed to admit I'm American.  Now I can be proud.   Smiley

President Obama has a very tough job ahead!  I just love those words...President Obama!

He was sworn in two times, so I guess he is legally the President. Grin
