darn it, it's a shame you live so far away. It would have been nice to get together to have a big bon voyage send off party

That would have been a blast!  I'll just have to make it to one of your down south parties when we get back.  I'll be retired, so plenty of time.   Grin

I think it's time to head a wee bit more up north and schedule a get together when you return Thumb up Might even plan a long weekend so that MR and I can take in a few sights in bonnie Scotland. The last time we were in Scotland was last year and we only managed to get to Gretna Green Grin. It was just one of our get in the car mode and drive to wherever...We did manage to see part of Hadrian's Wall and had lunch in Gretna, not bad considering we were only trying to kill time because we dropped the Liz off in Accrington and decided to head north.

Hey, a Scotland gathering would be great.  Haven't had one at my house since 2003.  Got lots of room for guests.   Redecorating then a big multi-country holiday is on the agenda when we return.  Time for a party in between though!   Grin

Annie, an almost too late greeting to wish you and your DH all the best in your big adventure!  I will try to check your blog once in a while to see how things are going.  I'm sure your time in Uganda will be very interesting and rewarding.

Hey Annie - good luck in Uganda...  Thumb up

That friend of mine that I told you about that's in Madagascar with the Peace Corps - she's been homeless for a month!!!  The PC can't find her a house or an assignment, so they released her early - she's been in since January 2006 and the PC is for 24 months.  Her assignment got weird when they had to evacuate her from Guinea due to civil unrest.

She's traveling around Africa for a month or so until she goes home. Can I send her your email address? She's looking for people to hang out with for a month.  Wink

They didn't dump her per se - they just told her that since she was so close to finishing - she might as well end now instead of them trying to relocate her, reassign her just for her to leave in January.

But the homelessness happened before they released her, they couldn't find her a house or assignment...she's making the most of it now by just traveling around....

As long as she's got the cash to keep travelling, she might as well enjoy it.  There are lots of beautiful places in Africa and her dollar will go far if she doesn't stay at tourist hotels.

Annie,

Here's an article I recently read about making your own paint.  Maybe you can brighten up your new digs with home-made paint!

http://www.motherearthnews.com/DIY/2006-10-01/Make-Safe-Natural-Paint.aspx

I hope you will have two absolutely wonderful years in Uganda.

Be safe,
Jan

Cheers Jan!  I'll see what our home is like and if needed will check out the paint idea.

If you are able to be online in Uganda, Mother Earth News is a wealth of information about everything from gardening to composting toilets.  So, if you get bored and want to put your time to good use, maybe you can find some useful articles online.

All the best to you and your husband,

Jan
